I know this isn’t brag-worthy, but from a standpoint based on facts and experience, I’ve been smoking Black & Mild cigars since 1997, which is just mild blowing to realize that it’s now been 27 years since my first Black! However, I don’t smoke them as much as I used to, although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t smoke them at all anymore. The truth is, I enjoy smoking these cigars occasionally, or whenever the mood strikes; it’s unpredictable. Sometimes I don’t even have a plan, but then when I see them, I’m reminded of how good they taste, smell, and feel to me.

Once that occurs, the rest is history! Nowadays, a single 5-pack can last an entire week, which is great for me because I used to smoke a pack a day. So, yeah, I guess you can say that I still smoke Black & Mild cigars faithfully. However, please note again, I’m not bragging, but admitting that I’m addicted and it is what it is, but if you’re reading this and don’t smoke and just curious, I advise you to turn around and leave, trust me, you don’t want this smoke, it’ll whop your ass, I promise! On that note alone, I remind you of how many years I’ve been smoking Blacks, not to encourage you, but to persuade you not to do it, as I would say no if I could go back in time, but here we are, almost 30 years later, and tens of thousands of dollars up in smoke!

Trying All Black & Mild Flavors

Now that I’ve got that little disclaimer out of the way, it’s time to get into some flavors! Over the years, I’ve tried all flavors, including filter tips, and Middleton’s Cherry Blend Cigars, which, by the way, I really enjoy. Speaking of flavors, Black & Mild doesn’t release new ones often, so whenever they do, I’m all over it.

However, it’s been over 15 years since a new flavor was introduced. I believe it was Casino, which dropped around 2008, if I’m not mistaken. Reflecting on it now, I’ve just realized how long it’s been, which is surprising because most cigar brands release new flavors all the time, but apparently not Black & Mild. I wonder why. Nevertheless, I smoke Original, so my favorite flavor is available wherever I go! That said, here are my favorite Black & Mild flavors, ranked and reviewed.

1. Black & Mild Original

Original is, hands down, my #1 favorite Black & Mild flavor, as it is for most people. As for taste, there’s certainly a lot going on, and there are many words I can use to describe the character and flavor of these cigars, including sweet, mild, a little peppery, but still somehow smooth and rich. However, everyone will tell you something different; some will say they have a cocoa taste, and some will even say they taste like coffee bean, cashew, cedar, caramel, or vanilla, which is something I just can’t taste, so I think this differs from one person to the next. Regarding aroma, they’re loud, aromatic, and attractive; even many non-smokers like how they smell. So, how about you? How would you describe the taste of an original Black & Mild cigar?

2. Black & Mild Sweets

Next up, I’m going to rank Black & Mild Sweets. It’s an easy pick for me because I oftentimes switch it up between these and the Original. Not to mention, you like what you like, and you know what you like and dislike! As for Sweets and how they taste, I think the name says it all; they’re just like the Original but a little sweeter. However, I think they’re a little lighter, not as bold as the Original, which is something I actually prefer sometimes. In my opinion, the aroma is pleasant to be around and is also slightly sweeter, matching the taste. Although I smoke Original more than Sweets, this is still easily my second favorite and one that I smoke often, maybe a pack a month at most.

3. Black & Mild Casino

Casino has been around for a while now, and I’ve always thought it was a good-tasting blend. The flavor is mild with a creamy smoothness that mixes in a faint cocoa note and just a touch of spice. It smokes steadily and holds its character until the end, which is something I like about it. As for the aroma, it’s slightly different from the usual lineup, not as heavy or sweet as some of the other flavors. For me, Casino is a middle-ground flavor that I circle back around to about every six months or so. I don’t smoke this Black & Mild flavor all the time, but every now and then, I’ll pick up a single and put one in the air! However, as a reminder, I’m no judge, so take my opinions with a pinch of salt and see if this is the one for you!

4. Black & Mild Royale

Royale Black & Mild cigars are one of the stronger flavors from the bunch, and that is clearly noticeable as soon as you crack a pack open. The taste is bold, with a richer tobacco profile that maintains its edge throughout. There’s also a creamy note that takes off some of the sharpness, so there’s definitely a balance there. The smoke is steady, and the flavor doesn’t fade or become burnt-tasting before the end, so they’re pretty consistent, with a fuller aroma than most of the lighter blends, and you can tell right away that it’s a heavier cigar flavor. Like most flavors remaining on this list, I don’t smoke Royale every day, but every now and then, I’ll pick up a single just to be different that day! How about you?

5. Black & Mild Jazz

Jazz has its own character that makes it different from everything else in the lineup. The taste is smooth and mild, leaning with a light sweetness that sets it apart. Most smokers will describe it as having a vanilla or slightly fruity tone, and after smoking these occasionally for several years, I think that’s a fair way to put it. In terms of quality, like all Black & Mild cigars, they burn evenly, and the flavor doesn’t shift too much, which allows you to enjoy them from start to finish. As for the aroma, it’s also unique and pleasant, yet softer than the bolder blends, but still noticeable enough to be immediately recognized. On a personal note, I may pick up a few singles here and there throughout the year, but that’s about it.

6. Black & Mild Cream

Black & Mild Cream is perhaps the softest, smoothest flavor of them all. As expected, they have a real creamy, slightly vanilla taste that doesn’t overpower the natural tobacco flavor, which is why I think these actually rank higher than #6 for most people. However, since this list is based on my personal rankings, this is where they fall. That said, I don’t think they’re terrible-tasting; I can totally understand why people like them, especially females, and some dudes too. They’re soft, slightly spicy with a mellow, creamy finish! As with the remaining flavors on this list, I never buy these, although I’ve tried them more times than once, but that was a long time ago!

7. Black & Mild Apple

First and foremost, Black & Mild Apple cigars are in a league of their own; no other flavor compares or rivals this one, and it’s not even close! As for the aroma, which comes once before you smoke them and once again after you light up, it’s pretty apparent what flavor this is just by smelling the pack. Once cracked and unwrapped, the apple flavor only enhances, and let me tell you, it smells so good, and even more so inviting. Regarding taste, I think the apple flavor slightly overpowers the natural tobacco flavor, making them more sweet than mild. I don’t smoke these often, not even rarely, but I’ve tried them a few times here and there, and although they’re pleasant, they’re just not what I’m looking for when I’m in the mood for a Black & Mild.

8. Black & Mild Select

Select Black & Mild cigars are lost somewhere between Original and Sweets. It has a smoother taste than Original and isn’t quite as sweet as my second-favorite flavor, which is cool for many, I suppose. The aroma is mild and pleasant, although I don’t think the flavor is all that balanced, not like Casino, which is somewhat similar, but different, and better tasting in my opinion. Select just isn’t all that appealing to me. On an honest note, it’s been over 10 years, maybe much longer, since I last tried this flavor, so my opinion could be way off by now, so don’t take my word for it, as this flavor could be your next new favorite! There’s only one way to find our for sure.

9. Black & Mild Wine

Wine Black & Mild cigars are instantly recognizable, even before being lit. As for its taste, I think it has a mild grape-like sweetness mixed with vanilla and maybe even a hint of chocolate underneath, which many people actually like and prefer. The aroma is strong, often compared to red wine or port, and it tends to linger longer than most other flavors. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a glass of wine, these might be very pleasant and appealing to you. Unfortunately for me, I don’t like wine or wine-flavored anything, so they don’t get the job done for me! I’m not knocking them, but keeping it real. It’s been well over a decade since I last tried them, but I don’t think my opinion has changed much since then, as I still don’t like wine anything, so whatever you do, don’t take my word for it; they might be the best Black & Mild flavor you ever smoked.
