Now made by Swisher Sweets, Optimo is one of the oldest cigar brands from the United States. However, these didn’t hit my radar until the late 1990s, at which time they blew up again, but only this time, among those who prefer blunts over paper joints. Speaking of, I was definitely one of those people, although I switch it up more nowadays, as I smoke blunts and roll joints, it just all depends on my mood. However, having tried every natural leaf Optimo Cigar flavor more than once, I thought it would be fun to rank and share them all with you.

My goal isn’t to recommend which ones you should try or avoid, but to list all currently available flavors so you can try them all, too! As true with food and drinks, cigar brands and flavors are also highly opinionated. Therefore, only you can determine which flavors are the best. As for my rankings, they’re based solely on my opinions and experiences over the years. It’s also worth noting that the best Optimo flavor depends on the quality of the cigar. In other words, if it ain’t fresh, it ain’t the best, and I don’t care what flavor it is. On that note, let’s break it down.

1. Sweet

Not everyone will agree, but based on my experiences, Optimo Sweets are the best. Not to mention, I love sweet cigars, usually more than artificial flavors. Like most people, I don’t smoke cigarillos straight up; I break ‘em down and use the leaf only to roll my herbs in. That said, I think the sweet flavor is compatible with almost all bud strains. Then again, if we were to go back to the days of reggies, my list of Optimo flavors might look very different than today!

2. Cream

Next up, I’m going with Optimo Cream. These cigarillos have a smooth, mellow body and a creamy finish that I really enjoy, but not with all herbs. For example, I think these pair well with certain strains like Ice Cream Cake, Cereal Milk, Cookies & Cream, Banana Cream Cake, and other cream-based buds. I think a lot of the time, people just mix flavors with any strain, resulting in nothing less than a disaster. A pro smoker knows better, and the difference.

3. Blue

As for my 3rd favorite flavor, I’m going with Blue Optimo! These cigarillos are sweet and mild, and pair well with some of my favorite weed strains such as Blue Dream, Gelato, and Sugar Cookie. In my opinion, these are a lot like the Sweets but a little milder, so they pair with almost any flavor profile, including berry, candy, sugar, creamy, vanilla, citrus, and more. This wraps up my top 3 favorite Optimo flavors, leaving the rest for everyone else!

4. Mango

If you’re into tropical-inspired flavors and strains, I would definitely recommend trying Optimo Mango cigarillos! Since reggies are no longer a thing in the US, they are best paired with other topical flavors, especially mango-based ones such as Mango Tango, Maui Mango Diesel, Mango Haze, Mango Wave, Mango OG, and Mango Kush, to name a few. Anything other than mango or tropical is a recipe for disaster and disappointment.

5. Grape

Unlike the other flavored Optimo cigarillos, the grape version features a candela wrapper, making it very similar to the Green Optimo. As with all grape-flavored cigarillos, I think these pair best with grape-inspired strains, such as Grape Ade, Purple Kush, Grape Gasoline, Grape Soda, Grape God, Grape Bubba, Grimace OG, Blurple, and Grape Skunk, to name only a few; there are many. Anything other than grape strains, I don’t recommend, but to each their own.

6. Green

Like the previous Optimo flavor, Green is also smooth, has a distinct aroma, and is made with a candela wrapper, so they’re slightly sweet, and have a more earthy, grassy flavor, so I think they complement certain strains like White CBG, Oreoz, Cherry Jane, Mac V2, Granimals, Bubba Kush, Super Silver Haze, and Durban Cookies. I’m sure I could find other strains that would pair with these Green Optimo cigars, but I think you get the message.

7. Diamond

If you’re more into natural tobacco flavors, then Diamond Optimo cigarillos might be something you could easily get into. As for the art of pairing, I would recommend something more earthly, such as Black Diamond OG, Purple Diamond, Blood Diamond OG, and other earthy, musky profiles. I used to smoke these all the time, but then I moved on and haven’t had one in a few years. However, they’re still popular and widely available, so somebody is still smoking them!

8. Silver

Silver Optino cigars are rich-tasting and unsweetened, pairing well with several flavor profiles, including citrus and bright strains, earthy and woodsy strains, and pungent and sweet strains. Speaking of strains, I recommend pairing with Super Lemon Haze, Silver Haze, Mimosa, OG Kush, Ghost OG, Northern Lights, Durban Poison, and Banana Cookies! If I thought harder, I’m sure I could come up with a hundred more options, but I think you get the drift.

Where to Buy and Try All Optimo Flavors Online

As most would agree, you can find Optimo cigars just about anywhere, including your favorite local smoke shop or gas station. However, when you shop online, you can usually find them cheaper because they’re sold by the case instead of single packs. In fact, all brick-and-mortar stores buy by the case, and then sell them individually because that’s how they make money. That said, I wouldn’t recommend buying a case just to try a new flavor, but if you already know you like one, buying online is definitely cheaper.

When buying Optimo cigars online, you can choose any smoke shop, but I can only recommend Bluegrass Tobacco. Yes, I work here, so my recommendation might be a little biased, but the truth is, I’ve never ordered from anyone else, so I can’t suggest them. As for Bluegrass Tobacco, I can confidently say that all our cigars and tobacco products are stored on-site in a temperature- and humidity-controlled environment, so freshness is guaranteed.
